Best Bike Rack Mounting Solutions to Save Space in 2022

At long last  you’ve finally got hold of that new bike you’ve been waiting to get your hands on. During the wait you’ve already thought through where you’ll take it on your first ride, what accessories you’re going to buy and the upgrades you’re going to make. Often overlooked is where you’re going to store it everyday when its not being used.

If you don’t have a storage solution it can quickly become a pain living in the same space with a bike everyday. This is especially true when space is tight and the bike is unsecured which just makes it feel that much bigger.

Luckily there are many ingenious solutions to this problem to get your bike up and out of your way safely when your not riding it. Lets look at some of the best solutions and just how much space you can potentially save.

Best Bike Rack Wall Mount

Wall Mount Bike Hanger Rack

The classic wall mount hanger for bikes gets you space by mounting the bikes vertically, taking away from the length of the bike. You’ll also feel like having additional space as they are away from the floor. These are good solutions for garages or hallways with enough room to pass by. Wall mount hanger racks are usually the cheapest solution for storing away multiple bikes.

Bike Stand Storage

Another solution is to store bikes using a bike stand. These solutions has dual use, not only functioning as bike storage but also as a station to do work on your bike.  The final benefit over wall mount racks is its portability, easily moved around without needing to use tools or create new mounting points.

Vertical Freestanding Bike Rack Stand

The upright vertical stand is a portable solution for storing bikes vertically. It is the best space saving solution for avoiding creating drilled holes or if mounting hangers onto walls is not desired.  It should be noted to check each brand specifications carefully to ensure it can fit to your bikes tire width or wheels with covers on.

Horizontal Wall Mount Racks

This kind of wall mount is an improvement in saving addition square footage over the traditional hanger wall mount. The mount removes both the length and the height of the bike from the interior space giving you more useable floor room. The angled design of these wall mounts allow you to stack the bikes one on top of the other.

Frame Wall Mount Hangers

Folding wall mounts allow you to hang the bike by the frame in a way that removes the height and length of the bike from the usable interior space. The simple design allows you to mount and retrieve your bike easily. This mounting type also provides a solution to those who may not want to mount the bike from the wheels but by the frame instead.

FAQs

What Bike Rack Mount is Right for Me?

With so many options to pick from consider:

Strength of the wall that you wish to mount to

If your bike is particularly heavy such as an E-mountain bike then a strong wall should be used to avoid any potential damage.

If this is a concern then a safer bet is to use a vertical free standing rack or a bike stand storage rack.

How many bicycles you need to store

If many bicycles need to be stored in the same area then consider whether saving vertical/ horizontal space or depth would be more useful.

If just storing 1-2 bicycles horizontal wall mount racks can be the best space saver. They can be mounted one on top of the other and take up virtual no square footage in a room.

If mounting 3 or more bicycles, a standard wall mount hanger rack would be more appropriate rack type to save horizontal wall space without to much compromise to square footage.

Will bike rack mounts damage my bikes wheels?

As with all products there are good quality and bad quality examples amongst them. Racks using materials with poorly finished hangers with harsh materials can scratch your wheels.

Most bikes wheel sets should be strong enough to hang by their wheel to support their own weight.

As long as you’re not hanging items off of your bike while it is hanging on the rack, any damage to the wheel from the rack is highly unlikely.
